Louisville, KY?

My boyfriend and I randomly decided that we want to go Louisville, KY on Friday. We have a 2.5 hour drive each way so we probably won't want to drive around a ton (or stay out late), but we think it could be fun.

I want to check out the Zappos outlet store (reviews would be appreciated!) but does anyone know of any great plus-size shopping in the city? I just came from a few weeks in Chicago so I've been to most of the big chains recently but I am always looking for fun stuff and great deals!

Thanks!

boots question

okay, here's the deal. i've been wanting to get some boots, but i can't find any that will fit a 6.5W foot and a 21" calf. [info]fluorescing suggested 1) getting some and trying to stretch them out, 2) going to a cobbler and having them add a gusset, or 3) having some custom-made.

i've looked at a bunch of websites (lane bryant, torrid, avenue, 6pm) but wasn't sure about the quality of the products there. i want some that will last a while. i've heard good things about duo boots, but those are so expensive. does anyone know when the best time is to look for sales there? and if you have ordered from there and live in the u.s., have there been any outrageous customs fees?

i'm interested in mid-calf or knee-high boots, but ankle boots would be okay too. i prefer something either flat or with a low, chunky heel (less than 2 inches). i don't have a lot of money too spend on this and am hoping to keep it under $200.

OOTD - or, the chubby mime.

I know this outfit will probably get some detractors, because it's baggy and sorta shapeless. but let me say what what, mmkay? #1 i'm pregnant and i should get get a pass for every thing, even the cheese stained pajamas i swear i was not wearing for two days. all anyone should ever say is oh my god you're beautiful and just the perfect size and you look smashing! ok, not really but i am living in my little fantasy world today where money grows on trees, cheese appears suddenly on my desk, and my son sleeps in his own bed all night, every night. welcome!

ooookay, sorry about that. and #2 this shit is comfortable! I love this top, it's ON maternity and as XXL and as you can see it's freaking huge, but it's super soft tissue weight and i lurve it. oh also, #3 i actually got dressed and put on accessories today. big step.

also, my cardigan sparkles! )

Wedding Help!!

Hey all!

It's been a while since I've posted, but I'm recently engaged and am looking to start the wedding planning process. Even though I don't know when the date is as of yet, I would like to start looking into dresses and designers.

What I would like to know is: Does anyone have any resources/sites specific to plus size bridal? Who are some Plus size bridal designers? And does anyone have any tips for plus size weddings/bridal gowns?

I did check the memories and found a few helpful links, but I'm still looking for a little more help :-)

Thanks!!

Outfits of summer

I just arrived in Australia last month. Two immediate observations:
1. Prices are dearer. I sorely miss the Old Navy clearance rack already.
2. That big gray inbetweenie zone seems to be drastically reduced in Australia. Granted, I don't know what all runs large or extends beyond a 14 (American 12), but I'm noticing a lower, much sharper line between the cute things and FAT FAT FATTY FAT clothes. The amount of polyester also increases dramatically.

Needless to say: I have a renewed respect for the fatshionistas out here. Blogs like Axis of Fat and Frocks and Frou Frou are fantastic resources, and if anyone has any other advice - particularly about bras and underthings and shoes - I'd gladly welcome it. :)

Anyhow, it was stupid hot on New Year's Eve and I live in the kind of town with more boats than A/C units, so I had to wear the most breezy, lightweight thing I own.

Advent of Dresses: Days 10-12

Hello lovelies,

I've been away for the holiday but am back and ready to post some more of my December of dresses (Dressember?). Days 10-12 of the Advent of Dresses were among my faves - especially once I discovered the awesome cocktail combo for Day 11!

Previous days are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

Your model is 5'9", ~240, 45(bust)/40(high waist)/48(jeans waist)/53(hips), a size 1x or 2x in dresses and a solid 22 in jeans.

Day Ten: the oddly-fitting Old Navy dresses continue!

Hotlanta!!!!

Hello all the beautiful people of Fatshionista!
I hope you had an amazing holiday season.
This weekend, I'm making a trip up to Atlanta for my sweet 16.
Any plus size stores worth hitting up?
I'm young and like to be trendy, so anything for a more conservative person probably won't float my boat... o:)

Anywhoo, if you have any advice, please reply!!! If not, hope all is well- and thanks for the future advice!

Fatshionista Basics?

It's a new year and I have decided to tackle this self conscious issue first and foremost. My outfits mostly contain jeans, tshirts, and hoodies. I took a pic of me that I was going to wear to a party on Saturday, and this is dressing up for me!

Follow the cut... )

My question is ... what are your fatshionista basics? What part of your wardrobe are things you cannot live without? What advice would you give to people like me who are just now starting to branch away from their comfort zone and trying to accept the shape they were given?

OOTD x 4

This is what I wore to enjoy my first day of unemployment and bravely face below freezing temperatures and 40 mph wind gusts. I was partly inspired by Rick Owens, whose collections I always love. He does layering and draping extremely well and I figured today would be great day to experiment.

I bought this front draped sleeveless vest from Avenue during Black Friday and I love using it as a layering piece. I layered it over a tunic from Dorothy Perkins and bodycon mini from Evans. The gray fur is from Torrid and I wrapped it over and under my arms and tied the ribbon strings it in the back. I actually really like this outfit and will be experimenting with other ways to achieve the same look.

Carmakoma - Review + Social network

On Monday I received the clothes I had ordered from the sales at Carmakoma. It is a Danish e-store. They go up to a L which is a European 50/52 (US22).

I had ordered from them in the past and they are very serious. The shipping costs are €20 for Europe and $27 for The USA. It only took a few days to receive my order (I am from Belgium).

Pictures... )

I think their clothes are really fabulous and there is a real attention given to details.

If you want to know more about my opinion (shameless plug I know), check out my blog: http://www.blogtobealive.com The last look will be up tomorrow.

Also random question here... I have recently joined a social network to meet new people (friends at first but who knows) and I am kinda new to this. I was wondering how you'd deal with the profile/description page. So far I have filled pretty much everything and added a picture. You can fill in your weight but I haven't owned a scale in forever. lol I feel weird saying; "I am fat!" because like I said I'd like to meet new friends first. But I guess that as shallow as some people can be, they can be turned off by a potential new fat friend. lol I don't know... I am not sure how to deal with this. I personally don't care who I meet but yeah...

Thanks for reading!

Good Place to Donate to

I'm culling my wardrobe again, and thought I might mention an even better place to give to--if you prefer to donate rather than sell--than Good Will or the like: a local battered-women's shelter. The one around here says they always have enough clothes in regular sizes, but still are happy to get 2X or more. If you wear women's clothes, are wardrobe-refining, and want to give away items, that's something to think about. Given my experience, do mention when making arrangements that they are plus-size clothes.

Also, thanks to comments on my one OOTD photo here that the jacket sleeves were too long, I've lined up a local person who works out of her home doing adjustments & already have a shopping bag of items to have her work on. I have trousers that need taking up anyway, and in the battle between time & money, I currently have more of the latter, so paying someone sounds good to me.

Thank you!

A quick post to thank you darling fats for recommending Marks&Spencer XL tights. I've been struggling away with Evans size 3 - they just do not stay up or fit right, and I thought it was just me until I read the comments here.

After reading a post here I went ahead and bought these stripey deals:

Despite the sizing saying 40-48" hips, and mine are more like 54", they fit GREAT! It probably does help that I'm short, 5'4" with short legs, but still. I am about to go on a tight-buying spree there now!

tie-dye clothes ahoy!

Hello all you lovely fats out there.

My best friend from back home is in Germany at the moment, and she came to visit me for a few weeks. We went to London for the weekend, and Saturday featured us going into the Covent Garden markets. Whilst there, we came across a store selling beautiful hand-painted dresses and shirts. They looked so pretty and versatile that, despite my having just slightly less than no disposable income, I bought one.So did my friend. I present here a photo of me wearing mine. Please excuse the bad lighting. This house is extremely dark.

I did what must have been at least an hour of internet searching, but I finally managed to find their ebay shop. Most of their stuff goes up to size 26 UK, and there are some 28s. It's all really stretchy and comfortable and comes in lots of different colours and designs. If you like this sort of tie-dye pattern, or bright colours in general, I encourage you to take a look, and let me know what you think.

Ootp:Outfit of the rockstar party! My Lady Gaga costume.

I was a fat Lady Gaga!
The costume wasn't made of much; just control top pantyhose, black fishnets, black underwear, a tunic shirt, my Clarks boots, and of course a wig. The doily-hat-thing is a church head cover I got at Beauty Mark. :D
